SEISS - NO INTERNET ACCESS

Didn't find your answer?

I have a handful of clients eligible for SEISS who actually manage to work without computer access!  Has anyone any ideas as to how they can claim?  HMRC's automated telephone system quite clearly states if they do not have internet access their agent will help them make the claim.  I am loathe to create a Government Gateway ID for a client - should the client wait until a letter is received or does anyone have any additional information I can rely on.

Applications aren't open yet, just tell them you'll do what you can when the process becomes a bit clearer and then wait and see.

HMRC may change their minds and let us apply via our current gateways - they changed their minds on Furlough - we live in hope. Otherwise I do think it will be a case of helping clients set up a gateway etc - lots will need help- we have to wait and see

HMRC have always wanted people to have a personal government gateway and this is a way of forcing the issue

Let's hope they change their minds!

I've also got clients who are computer literate and who are trying to verify themselves with the link HMRC advertised and they need a photo-card driving licence or a valid passport - many have neither! Now what?!!!!

I believe HMRC have said there will be an alternative, presumably a paper-based alternative, but as ever no detail as yet.

I have written to my MP asking him to lobby HMRC to allow authorised agents to claim on their clients behalf. If others also contact their MPs, we might get a result

HMRC have said linking the SEISS claim scheme to agents’ accounts would take longer. I have suggested launching the scheme as is and then adding the agent filing option a week or two later

I don’t think the self employed can wait a week or two longer. I will just tell clients to do it themselves.

Yeah or 16 weeks longer for paper applications - just imagine it!

I've got a friend who submitted a paper 2019 SATR last October and the SA302 came out last week!

It's a fluid situation. They may be able to do it from their phones. I struggle to believe that even a handful of clients are completely cut off from the tech world.

I have emailed my MP, asking about why Agents can not do it on their behalf.

It really will be wait and see.

I do hope your MP comes back to you before mine Sally, which is NEVER unless you have a rant at the total lack of a response.....followed by 'we are busy at this time, blur blur blur'.
