Its not for me. I don't want the usual crowd delaying giving me their information any longer as tax return season will then drag on for another couple of months. I look forward to February and no PITA clients.
Not for me either - I want it all done and out of the way, and then I can catch up on limited company accounts that have slipped. I've still got 7 clients that think it is far too early to give me their paperwork, and they won't need a second chance to prevaricate any further................
It's already been highlighted on this forum. Looking at the number of signatures it's going to go nowhere - certainly not in time for any action to be taken before the end of this month.
agreed
waste of time
HMRC decided quite a while back
At beginning of Jan, 5 million tax returns yet to be filed, and clearly the taxpayers involved have no interest in that petition
1500 died of Covid yesterday, but HMRC still want 5M to go and talk to their accountants.
Filing deadline could cost numerous lives
Another 1500 dead today
but [***] it HMRC want the paper record people to be out and about dying to file tax returns
Any last minute change will not stop the deaths and distribution of disease between now and then
In my opinion Covid is not a valid reason for delay in filing, so I will certainly not be signing this. Most people have much bigger problems every year than Covid, and they are usually no excuse for lateness. The sort of people who file late this year are the same who are late every year, and even if you extended the deadline, they would still be late for that too.
Not entirely. Many of my traditional last minute charlies gave me their stuff really early in in April/May, probably due to having nothing else to do..............
The extension of the deadline seems to be coming from the clients point of view. What about the practitioner? We've had staff off with Covid, I've had it myself and, whilst not particularly unwell, it does knock you for six. I struggled with tiredness and still have the cough that's taking ages to subside.
We're on target to get them all done but it will mean working all hours so, in my opinion, it is a valid excuse.
The real deadline problem, remains tardy, slow clients rather than Covid-19. Having chased far too many times, I am quite happy if any of my remaining 15 returns end up with a penalty - its there own fault.
I for one will not be claiming Covid-19 as reasonable excuse on their behalf either.
No (and I sdon't want to be considered a key worker either)
+1 to the above responses.
I know the search facility here is not the best but searching "petition" does bring up the previous time this was asked (last week) as one the first results....
+2.
The only late ones are the usual take the mickey types. They should be fined double!
