Hi all
Quick question. A client has asked me to look at some capital gains tax calculations on his Royal Dutch Shell shares
The only info he has given me is that in October 1987 he purchased 420 Shell Transport shares and at present he holds 1,086 RDS shares. He does not believe he ever purchased any further shares since the original purchase and I have therefore tried to work my way back to arrive at the 1,086 shares he holds now.
I understand there was a 2 for 1 issue in 1988 and again in 1997 but this would only give me 420 x 2 = 840 * 2 = 1,680. When they went to RDS, the exchange was 0.28733 new RDS shares for 1 STT share which gives me only 482 RDS held.
As i say, the client has not bought any further shares so I am at a loss as to why the figures do not reconcile. Does anyone know of any other actions that took place that I may have missed?
Many thanks
Bob

Scrip?
Probably wouldn't explain the whole difference but does he get his divs in shares rather than cash?
