Signing up Co-op to MTD for VAT

HMRC MTD sign up won't accept the Mutuals Public Register no.

We are having problems signing up a Co-op to MTD for VAT using our Agent Services Account.  For type of Organisation we select  Other then Registered Society.  We then get the question,

What is your client’s company registration number? You can find the company registration number on the Companies House website (opens in a new window or tab). Of course there is no Companies House Reg no. so we enter the Mutuals Register no. (5 digits plus R at the end).  We have tried adding an extra zero at the beginning and omitting the R.  But we get the error message,

We could not confirm your client’s registered society. The information you provided does not match the details we have for your client’s registered society.

I rang HMRC about this in January and they said they would be sorting it out, but in the meantime I could submit the VAT return using the old portal.  But it still won't work.  I tried the Is this page not working properly? link but we just got a useless standard email response.  Can anyone help?
