Our business is considering using a different accounting software package but there are two additional requirements on top of what we already have.
The inventory/product codes must have the ability to deal with multiple locations and the COGS must be posted when the sales invoice is posted.
We currently use Sage 50 and this can only cope with 1 location and does not post COGS. You have to do journal at the end of the month to account for your stock movement. Is there any software out there that posts COGS when the invoice is posted?
Thanks

Sage 200
I use Sage 200 - which does post cost of sales. We don't use the manufacturing module, so it only posts costs for items merchanted out of stores.
We do use analysis codes for our major projects in WIP though, so it is easy to keep track of WIP transactions and then post the total out.
A lot more flexibility than L50 in that it is a proper period based system.
I think you can upgrade your L50 data when doing the install - but you will need Sage resellers to do this part.
You can run warehouses, which I presume could be used for your locations.
No shortage of choice
Billy I wouldn't consider any of those requirments unusual.
Most half decent systems will accomodate your needs. Do you have anything more specific that you need from the system?

QuickBooks posts average cost automatically with a sales invoice. It astonished me to discover, some years ago, that the basic versions of Sage didn't do that - how could it call itself a stock-capable accounting system if the stock value isn't affected by sales?
For multiple locations you'd need the Premier edition.
Product sales invoices

Product sales invoices in Sage 50 Accounts and Sage Instant do reduce the quantity held in stock and affect the stock value. Have done for years.
Sage 200 - additional comments
As a previous comment states Sage 200 (disclaimer - I work for a Sage 200 reseller) does the things that you want. A couple of additional comments:
It is significantly more capable than Sage 200 (over and above the points that concern you), but is also significantly more expensive. There are subscription options, though, that may make the difference less painful.
There is a migration tool for your Sage 50 data, but it's also very common to reorder and tidy up account numbers and other details
Sage 200 supports multiple warehouses, and also multiple locations within a warehouse for a single product
There is also a third party Sage 50 add on (from Adept) that supports multiple locations, but not COGs. It has limitations (especially if you have lots of products and locations), but may do a job for you.
