Swiss VAT

Didn't find your answer?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some info about Swiss VAT. My company is an event creative company, we do a lot of works for EU client. Brexit time is clicking closer, when The UK leaves the EU, we may will have to charge VAT to our EU client. SO we're thinking to register a company in Switzerland, in that way we won't charge VAT to EU clients if we invocie from Swiss company. Does anyone have any knowledge on how the VAT works for a Swiss company? How they charge teh foreign/ EU client? WIll there be other tax related to this?

Many thanks,

Lina

Hire an accountant. That is the only appropriate response to your question.

Seriously ?

We don't even know for sure what's happening in the UK, let alone Switzerland

I know the uncertainty is terrible for business but isn’t it a bit extreme to open an office in Switzerland?

Hi guys, Thanks for your advice and input. But I guess just because we don't know what will happen, so we have to prepare for the worst, right? Think ahead. (Of course, we need to always work for the best!)

Hate dealing with the Swiss.

Without wishing to stereotype, they are so "money conscious".

Getting money out of them is like getting blood out of a stone.

Dealing with them is like dealing with the Vulgarian Finance Ministry from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Everything done in carbon copy quadruplicate with a Vulgarian rubber stamped two-headed bald eagle or rampant lion on all official paperwork. (You get the picture?)

And they speak too many languages.

I wish you all the best!

Have I missed something, but isn't Switzerland not in Europe just like the UK post-Brexit?

Therefore how does a Swiss reg'n help you, as won't it have the same treatment as the UK?

They're in the EEA - we won't be.

Dunno if that makes a difference - though I take your point, of course.

Post- Brexit, both Switzerland and UK will be 'third countries', so I'm not sure it would make much difference to your EU customers.

Depending on exactly what you are supplying, it may be that you should already be registered for VAT in other EU member states. You don't need a local entity to do this but the registration process can be somewhat bureaucratic.

'Event creative services' could cover a multitude of things which might make it something other than a straightforward supply of goods or services. You really do need someone who can understand properly what event creative services actually means in VAT terms, and then advise accordingly.
