Switching 64-8 agent authority

Switching 64-8 agent authority

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

I'm currently acquiring a block of fees and wonder if anyone can assist with regards to 64-8 agent authority forms?

Do I need to ask the new clients that we are buying in to sign a new 64-8 or is the a way to change over the agency from the retiring accountant to my practice?

I wouldn't know who to speak to at HMRC!

Any help very much appreciated!

Been down this road

They keep changing their systems, so I don't know how relevant this is any more.  When we did it back in 2009, there was a dedicated "agent maintainer" at the HMRC online services helpdesk to whom we supplicated, and they transferred the entire block over from one agent to the other without the requirement of individual 64-8s.  Or rather, they did this for CT and SA, but for PAYE we had to due new 64-8s and FBI2s on an individual basis for every client, and as I recall the VAT ones had to be redone as well (by paper).

You would hope that things improve with time, but I am not altogether sure whether the post of agent maintainer still exists.

With kind regards

Clint Westwood
