Tax Calc Pro 2012

Tax Calc Pro 2012

Didn't find your answer?

Dear All,

I am considering to buy taxcalc Pro software for personal tax , partnership and corporation tax. Does anybody used taxcalc pro before? How effective it is as the cost quoted to me was £495 with unlimited clients (both personal, corporate, and partnership). Is there any limitation in this software?

I have started my practice 3 months ago and having 8 clients. Does this suites me?

I will be using VT for the final account and IXBrL conversion. Is there any other software which is also very cost effective?

Your comments will be appreciated

Regards,

Super combination

I use VT & TaxCalc. The combination is superior to software that costs many time more and will save you a lot of time and a lot of frustration. You should be very happy with your choice.

The only other comparable software (for tax) that I would personally consider is BTC, who also offer an integrated CRM. VT is out on it's own and nothing compares to it.

Tax Calc

I also use VT & TaxCalc, it is great an works very well.

The only limitation I found (with VT not Tax Calc) is that VT doesn't yet let you file abbreviated accounts with Companies House on-line, yet - although I am told they will have this feature by March 2013.

As Shirley mentioned BTC is also good - with the added advantage of being able to file abbreviated accounts with Companies House on-line via its practice managment/CRM Module

With only eight clients, you probably don't need the unlimited version of TaxCalc yet - they do smaller bundles too, so you keep your costs lower.

another happy user of VT and tax calc.

Only downside is given not integrated you need to manually type info into taxcalc but this downside is more than offset by cost saving compared to integrated packages such as IRIS and SAGE.

I have over 40 clients that I service in my own time (given I currently also work full time with a CA firm in Edinburgh) and works fine for me.

Mark

Yes, but I will be changing

Taxcalc as a product works pretty well and would expect it to be suitable for you at the moment.

As BigBadWolf mentions its worth looking at the packages they offer as you could save yourself some money.

Money isn't the issue for me at the moment, lack of integration is, which is why I'll be changing software next year. More cost but the time and productivity savings will enable me to service more clients.

@Kent

I hope you will come back and let us know if the integrated software lives up to your expectations.

The reason I ask, is that a lot of the people on here that use VT & TaxCalc have used integrated software in the past and discarded it in favour of the quicker and more user friendly VT & TaxCalc, BTC, etc. The original reason for changing may have been cost, but the simplicity of the software means it is also easier and quicker than using fully integrated software and results in greater efficiency, therefore resulting in further reductions in labour costs.

I would be very interested in your opinion, if you would be willing to share it, as you are going in the opposite direction.

@ShirleyM

Of course.

Apart from the occasional gripe about Taxcalc I do think its a great product:

1. Very easy to use from scratch.

2. The simple step as opposed to HMRC forms is great.

3. Importing data from previous years very straight forward.

However time is my enemy at the moment and as my business grows I need to look at ways to find more time - better systems is the priority for me and I see an integrated package as the way forward.

I know initially whatever package I choose there will be a learning curve and time spent transferring data but its something I need to look at now, not in 12 months.

I'll report back when I've decided on a package and why and then again once its up and running.

Maybe a blog is needed...

another + for TaxCalc

Just needed to file a 2010 return for a new client. I wasn't using TC then but within 5 minutes of asking they emailed me a licence for a free version of TC2010 with instructions on how to setup. Excellent product and service.

I find the one off setup time to be about 2 minutes per client so I'm not worried about integration and it imports data year on year.

BTC every time

I used to use Taxcalc and transferred to BTC (with VT, naturally!) - I prefer BTC, it's quicker and the customer support is much better. If you like VT you'll get on well with BTC and as a company I'd say they are similar (customer-focussed). Wouldn't swap for anything!

I'm confused
I am going full time next year and looking to also purchase a accounts and tax package. I have been using sage practice suite at moment but it lacks development and is expensive to upgrade beyond the 20 client version I have at present so I will be cancelling the licence. I have been looking at
what else is available and asked for advice on here. Whilst VT and tax calc are popular on here they look a bit basic to me and so far the Digita package looks the best to me for price and functionality. Yet it doesn't seem that well used by Aweb users. I was going to commit to buy in new year but not so sure now. Is tax calc really that good.

support

I am surprised by the comment "support is better with BTC"I have used Tax Calc since 2004 having moved from a far more expensive. The support I have received from Tax Calc has been outstanding. I have not had much call to use it as the package is user friendly but the few support contacts I have had  have been prompt friendly and  each member of staff has gone the extra mile to make sure that I am happy and the problem resolved.

I honestly cannot speak too highly of the package.
