Tax code nightmare

Slow again downloading

Didn't find your answer?

Anyone else having a nightmare getting codes down. We are using Moneysoft. Either very slow, or not at all and crashes the program

Yes - I have now stopped using the batch operation on BrightPay to check for coding notices as what would normally take about 5-10 minutes is taking about 40 minutes- and then returns unknown errors. Individual companies checks are ok or at least will work on the 2nd attempt

Yes, very slow here on moneysoft too. The new tax codes came through after about 5 minutes. I think from other comments that it is not a moneysoft specific problem though.

Do you ever feel that in the 'digital age' nothing works as it should? PAYE codes used to work OK - what now FFS?

I sometimes feel I am living in a version of Terry Gilliam's 'Brazil'.

for us too, using moneysoft, the system goes through to download but then just locks up and we have to cancel the program. we had recently done an update so weren't sure if it was related to that - but maybe just that hmrcs system is slow.

HMRC have issues.
Not your software.
It is hit and miss at the moment.

It would be nice if they said on that page the date/time when the issue first occurred ... and, ideally, retained the entry when issue resolved (saying when it was fixed) - instead of just removing all trace of the notice.

This is why I wish HMRC would get existing things working properly before moving onto their next project

But getting "existing things working properly" isn't the real issue - although obviously it's the bit that hits us in the face on a regular basis.

The big issue is that they've never tried to tackle (let alone re-design/re-build) the foundations of their systems. So, even when an existing bit is made to work, it is like sellotaping a new bay-window onto the front of your house (other ineffective structural analogies are available) ... it only works until something else in the house is changed that (unexpectedly) compromises the sellotape.

What they (and therefore we) are currently faced with is a construction that tries to incorporate meccano and lego intermingled with steel RSJs and timber beams (a house that even the 3 little pigs wouldn't have relied on)!

As of (at least) midday, when checking for new notices, Moneysoft returns a Warning box with a nice yellow triangle stating "Could not log on -"

There was a software update this morning (and earlier this week). Whether today's update has resulted in the above rather than the delays and failures of recent weeks...who knows

As others have said: the more we put IT into systems, the more it seems to cause delay, upset and frustration

I'm glad I saw your reply - I was getting this too and thought it was something I'd done. But just tried again [15:08] and it seems to be working again.
