Tax Filer Price Hike - recommended alternatives?

Tax Filer has just hiked its prices by 100%. Any recommended VFM software alternatives ?

Didn't find your answer?

As many of us small accountants had expected after the sell out to IRIS, Tax Filer has just hiked its prices by 100%. The huge increase in its price may be fine for those firms who have a large client base but those of us who do not have hundreds of clients, the price increase is a real deal breaker.

Does anyone have any value-for-money accountancy production software alternatives to recommend?

Thank you.

Can't get more value for money than VT Final Accounts.

You can work on your own template and get everything set up the way you like it in terms of notes and policies, formatting etc.

We already use VTT+ for some client bookkeeping and for posting adjustments to client TBs, so throwing it into VTFA is very quick, but it's not as quick as copying and pasting into TF if you're not using VTT+.

It's not as automatic as copying and pasting either, but it makes up for it in ability to customise headings, notes etc.

It's not really an alternative to Taxfiler though, is it ?

The monthly subscription has basically doubled it seems, for me .. from £15 + VAT to £30 + VAT
This is an annual cost of £360 + VAT

How is this cost any different from other software?!

And what happened to them being the'disruptors' in the software market.

I am so disappointed.

We use VTFA for accounts (£150pa) and Taxfiler for tax returns. Both are excellent and save us a lot of time. You would need something else for tax returns if you used VT for accounts and, by the time you learn it, are you really saving much money?

You could look at Andica, it looks as if they are introducing accounts software. (I just did a search for Andica and the first two ads were for Taxfiler and Iris so they have already spent your money.)

We submit approx 150 tax returns (SA/CT600) so it is £1 more per tax return and it would cost us a lot more to set up on a new system. May move our PM solution if Taxfiler any good, would save time on the duplication.

Thanks for the suggestion. It looks like I will move to VT for final accounts and look at Andica for CT and SA tax filings.

I too had expected Iris to raise the fee but not by 100% though possibly they will say less if we pay annually? so I am also looking for an alternative, however, will see if the MTD bridge might swing the decision back to TaxFiler, personally I doubt it.

I am surprised that Iris/Taxfiler haven't made more of the MTD bridge this as it isn't appearing as an option when I log in and unless I missed it haven't seen an email from them advising that they have this option.

Possibly even at the new rates the convenience is still just value for money, but not calculated to generate any goodwill towards Taxfiler/ Iris.

If you can't get an alternative at a cheaper cost then Taxfiler is still value for money. The VAT option is in your clients setup. There's a box now that let's you add a VAT number and then that lets you access the VAT service. To be honest, that in itself would not swing me back to TF if I was looking at leaving, as their are free alternatives.

If you use Xero for client accounting and filing VAT there is no need for such an option with Tax Filer. Also Xero has a free MTD bridging solution which I shall use for Group VAT filings. I for one do not see the MTD offering as any value for Tax Filer and certainly not worth the price hike from £15 to £30 and even worse for those where were paying just £10 per month.

I shall move from Tax Filer as a matter of principle for more than doubling their price to loyal customers even if I end up paying more with another provider(s)! It is very poor treatment to their current customer base.
