tax refunds to client account

have things changed?

Didn't find your answer?

Now that HMRC insist on an individual name being on a bank account when a refund is requested through the agents online services, how have others been getting refunds paid into the client deposit account or do we now have to accept this is a thing of the past and get the refunds sent directly to the client.

We were just putting our own name in with the CDA bank details which was not correct but worked,  but we have found all requests in the last couple of months have been rejected and I can only assume that is because of the extra security checks now that requires the account name to match to bank details.

Of course if HMRC just followed the instructions on the SATR none of this would matter.

I've NEVER had success in asking for a refund via agents online services. tried loads of times and just get ignored.
Generally I ring the ADL and ask them to make the refund as per the filed SA return.

I have also stopped filling out the refund request via the agents online services. I ring the ADL because if there is a flag to stop all refunds for whatever reason you wouldn't find out online as the form stills submits. By ringing the ADL you'll find out if there is a problem which needs sorting or you can request them to refund per the SA return instructions.

I am glad it is not just me that finds that refund claims on line are ignored.
As others say I now call agent dedicated phone line

What are the circumstances in which receiving the refund are more beneficial to you and the client than a direct payment?

Never once felt the need for the rigmarole of running a client account.

well the most common is so that our fees can be settled from the refund

Some clients (in my experience) prefer to just get a net refund, rather than get a refund then pay us. Less faff and, more importantly, less effort for them.

Never had any problems. I always get refunds into a clients account.

As NH says I take out my fees before sending the balance to client - that way I'm sure that I get paid - esp for those clients who are CIS subbies.

I always ask first obviously and no-one has ever declined.
