Tax Return Issued-HMRC Portal

Didn't find your answer?

Dear All,

Viewing your client's tax return history on the HMRC Portal, we see that each year's tax return is shown as issued on the 6th of April that year. Based upon your experience, is it safe to assume that everyone is then issued with a paper notification to submit a tax return (by post)? The reason why I ask this is because HMRC are adamant that once HMRC portal says notification issued, that means a person is sent a notification by post, though in my experience it does not hold true!

Would appreciate your response and thank you for your time.

If it's true then my clients have suffered a massive loss of post by Royal mail

It'll be in a box somewhere, waiting for a staff member to be employed to take it to the pillar box.

Notice to file is unpredictable every year. As is receiving a tax statement or a giro to pay. I never promise any client they will receive these now, and make sure they contact me before any deadlines.
