Tax returns

tax return help on hmrc

Didn't find your answer?

i am doing a tax return for a friend, they had previously used an accountant so have  UTR number, but when i go onto enrolling for hmrc online services it says no record, yet previous tax returns have been submitted. =i know they is a deadline for registering for self assessment but surely not for online services as they cant use paper based either.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to set up an account if your friend has a UTR, you (your friend) need to speak to the HMRC online services helpline to see what the problem is.

The accountant would have filed using their agent login.

Your friend will need to set up their own government gateway account to submit themselves.

Agents don't typically set up online accounts for clients.

So your advice is for him to do what he has said he has already tried doing? :/

He said he thought there would already be an account open for his friend. I explained that there wouldn’t be an account since the agent would not have set up an account for the client.

Surely I am answering the question asked?

Have you managed to find a change if career yet? I don’t understand why you are having a go at me when I was being helpful.
