Tax taken through tax codes

How do I stop tax due being taken through a tax code

Didn't find your answer?

Has anyone else had a problem with HMRC taking tax due from Self Assment Tax Returns through a change of tax code even though the box asking for it NOT to be done on the tax return?

What can I do to stop this happening again?

All the time. I presumed that it was a ploy of HMRC to ignore the ticked box. But I didnt know it could be changed. Does it have to be the client who phones?

To point out the inconvenience.
The fact that HMRC ignored the initial request.
"specifically asked them not to (on your tax return)"

by 3oth December.... yes?

How and why did computer get it wrong?
The fact that client has then inconvenienced agent.
At £ zero fees, wow !
And to observe that there are now HMRC costs to put something right, that should never have been wrong.

Can't wait until MTD is fully implemented.
Everything right, first time and every time.

If you are an authorised agent (armed with 64-8) telephone HMRC, listen for dog or washing machine, in the background and request the change. If necessary, insist on the change, in accordance with the request, made by the self-assessed taxpayer.

I've used the Self Assessment webchat around 7.30pm two days this week and got through in under 5 minutes. They'll help

What a waste of time and resources. Box on SA clearly ticked. Not applied. Resulting in stupid K codes normally appearing. We have to then phone and sort. They have to spend time doing it. Amazing.
I have 5 to do on Monday. By the time I've jumped thru all the security hoops thats a morning of my time gone.

Is it definitely trying to collect the 18/19 balancing payment or could it be something else?

Such as, a reduction to try collect tax due on property or dividend income for the current year.
