Taxcalc accounts production

Taxcalc accounts production

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

My VT licence comes up for renewal soon, and I've just noticed that Taxcalc have brought down a version of their accounts production software that covers 50 clients for £249+VAT.  It also seems to come with their client hub and can file directly to CH.

I know this is still considerably more than VT, but I already use Taxcalc for tax (and Sage ACT for client/practice management), so I wondered if there was much benefit in using Taxcalc for accounts, tax & pm, which would make it worth the extra.

(I'm not likely to increase my client base to more than 50 clients for the foreseeable future, so the client number limit is not an issue).

Thanks for any opinions.

Switched FROM VT?

Switched FROM our frabjabulous VT to anything else?! Does this ever happen? Wash out your mouth and say 100 Hail VT's!

hahahaha

@ Shirley, for some reason, I thought that VT online filing with CH was not for several more months, so I've been mistaken there.

@ Flash Gordon, hahaha, well I thought I'd ask the question anyway.  I think it is the draw of not having to "maintain" names and addresses etc... in three different software systems.

(And my hope that if I change a figure in the accounts, that the tax software would update automatically, but actually may be it doesn't work like that)

@Viv100

Don't forget VT transaction + and VT Cashbook. You couldn't get anything easier than the data transfer between these pieces of software.

You do the data transfer with every set of accounts, but how often do addresses change?

@Shirley

Yes you are right, names and addresses change infrequently (apart from one or two clients who will insist on renting a new house every year or so)

I completely forgot about VT transaction (aargh) *hangs head in shame*

I do really like Taxcalc's simple step, though...

.

VT was supposed to be doing e-filing from November 2012. Bit miffed its not live actually, not sure why its such a low priority.

Nice VT people please get a wriggle on with that!

@ireallyshould...

I think (but don't take my word for it) that VT changed priority to the Universal Import, which we now have.

VT Trans+

It's a new utility in VT Trans+ for importing transactions, that many people were asking for. The old version was very limited.

An all in 1 solution
Is the way to go, I use a a different package to you (Digita) but the time savings are great with easy integration from accounts to tax to on line filing. Client management should also be of interest to you as if set up correctly can be of great value from a marketing and up selling of services point of view.

My first opinions

Having now looked at the demo, I've so far discovered the following:

The interface and "simple step" IS really nice (and better looking than VT)

There doesn't seem to be an "import trial balance" function, (unless I've missed it), which seems a bit of a fail, (I hate rekeying data)

Editing notes section is very straightforward (well, better than SIAP, which is what I had before VT)

The "user" levels/roles is something I won't use for the foreseeable future.

The client hub is very basic and wouldn't be a replacement for Sage ACT (or even the make-shift Access database I used before it)

It does have "error checking" features similar to it's tax software, where a list of what looks incomplete or wrong appears.

I have no idea what the accounts look like "printed" because that function is not available in the demo.

It was very quick to produce a set of accounts (using my made up TB figures)

Integration

... just to add, (following on from Glenzy's comment)

I haven't tested the integration with taxcalc's tax software.  I've installed the demo onto an old laptop, which is not where my main software is installed.

(I'm not sure, if I downloaded the taxcalc tax software whether I could test the integration or whether that functionality is disabled in the demo)

I think (hope, as I haven't tried it) that there would be some time-saving in integrating tax & accounts production, but the client hub is not (imho) adequate for full practice management/crm.

(But yes, I was hoping for an all-in-one solution)

One of the joys of VT is that it is Excel based and therefore can be adjusted easily if required. I doubt that Taxcalx accounts can be if at all

TaxCalc and VT are a marriage made in heaven for accountants and I would definitely not try a divorce as it'll end in tears

Decided to stay with VT

I downloaded the trial of taxcalc tax software (as I didn't have it on my old laptop where I installed the trial AP) and the integration was not as extensive as I though.  It seems to pre-populate the name, address and other standing items which is obviously helpful, but there is still the need (as far as I can tell) to import/attach accounts/comps (in my naivety, I thought that if the accounts were updated, the figures would push through automatically to the tax return comps).

So, the "mechanics" seems still to be much the same as using VT & taxcalc.

(Also, the thought of having to key in the TB instead of importing into VT was too much)

Thanks to all who responded.

Two directors signing the balance sheet

Can anyone help me in fixing this problem:

Under the notes tab, I have added two directors who will be signing the balance sheet. On the same screen when I preview, the software shows two directors names appearing on the bottom of the balance sheet who will be signing. However only one director is appearing when I print the final accounts.

Please let me know if anyone know the fix.

many thanks,
