Taxfiler and HMRC data import

Taxfiler and HMRC data import

Didn't find your answer?

Hello,

Is it possible to import the data/populate the return with the info that Taxfiler retrieves from HMRC?

Many thanks

Strictly speaking, Yes ... but only if you develop your own software and incorporate the APIs available from HMRC (at no additional cost).

More to the point, there's nothing to stop Taxfiler (or any of the other software suppliers) from adding functionality such that you can take a copy/backup of the data retrieved from HMRC - and in any format (.CSV would be a likely default).
So maybe someone should suggest it to them?

No, when I brought this up with TF, they said that the data was too unreliable, which whilst true, in my view is just an excuse.

Their suggestion is that you open a second TF tab so that you can see the data side by side.

What a load of rubbish (by them!!). If they thought it was unreliable then why even have the function to view it?
They just can’t be arsed to develop the software. It’s been very stunted since the buyout, as expected, and all we got for the price increase was a crappy PM function which nobody asked for.
Editable account headings still nowhere on the horizon…….

Plus as I mentioned a week or two back, Taxfiler are pushing a discount on other PM software.

I agree with others, it's not possible to automatically populate the return.

I print the import page to pdf and save it to my computer, just so I have a record. Having dual screens makes it easier, but having the the imported information on one screen and the data input on the other screen, copying and pasting the information across takes a matter of seconds, so for me personally having an auto-fill function would be of little value.

I use it to double check the client data provided and agree that it is not too onerous to input the information.

This particular client has over twenty 'employment' sources as he is in the TV and Film industry behind the camera so it could have been useful.
