TaxFiler fee increase!

Didn't find your answer?

I know it was going to happen following the Iris takeover but has anyone noticed the fee increase on taxfilers website, nearly doubled!

Good while it lasted

Still the cheapest I believe, but certainly a big hike percentage wise.

What improvements are Taxfiler going to make to justify this hike. For instance are they going to enable changes to be made to the heading names in P&L accounts and allow new headings to be added. I'm prepared to put up with the annoyance of Taxfiler's fixed headings because their fees are reasonable enough for me to subscribe to Taxcalc's Micro Practise Accounts Production for those cases where I really do want a different heading. I'm not sure that I want to subscribe to both Taxfiler & Taxcalc Micro if Taxfiler are doubling their fees so I may have to ditch Taxfiler and go wholly over to Taxcalc.

It will come with a new practice management system. In anticipation I have cancelled by subs with Accountancy Manager.

@anthonystorey So you want improvements to the software but are not happy at price increases? Seems to me you want your cake while eating it. If the increased price means that Taxfiler will increase the functionality then I'm all for it.

TaxCalc I hope you keep up on Prac Management. Very poor to date.

If taxfiler doubled its price again it would still be cheap as chips.

FT Taxcalc have added a lot of features to pm but they are not available until the Autumn. Also they say that the Client hub was given free in the software so I imagine the PM module will come with a price tab once its useful.

I asked at Accountex what the cost of the new PM and time recording would be for Taxcalc. We have 6 staff and will cost us an extra £300 + VAT a year. If is any good then would be worth it.

Firstly is anyone else caught as often as I am with taxcalc and taxfiler names being similar. Auto-fill when typing on tablet a right pain.

But main point additional functionality is great and worth paying for, if you use it. We have a system that we payfor and like for practice management. The cost and hassle of dumping that to switch to anyone else is not justified. Taxfiler is cheap because it is simple and we like that, we do not want lots of extras that we would have to pay for but not use.

Agree. Time recording is no use to me. Iris are just trying to make me buy something I don't want and then asking "Isn't this great value ?"

Err - no.

I didn't receive any communication about this. not sure when the new prices come into play?

from £12 to £36 for me as I have over 30 but under 50 clients. 3 x the price.

Its a really really basic product, almost too basic to be of use.

I hope they improve it, not really so bothered about practice management and I'm not sure how their MTD solution can be anything over than a temporary fudge.

"Its a really really basic product, almost too basic to be of use."

Do you actually mean Taxfiler? I don't see it like that at all, especially compared with PTP/Iris. Moving from them has saved me £1,800 in year 1 alone without loss of functionality.

Yeah Taxfiler, I mean for the accounts production. The rest is fine.

That said it is easy to use, efficient, and connects to quickbooks, although would be nice if there was a xero connection too.

I still think you are talking about a different product. Taxfiler has had a Xero connection for ages.

Are we talking about the same product? It’s far from basic and the MTD solution is not only easy to use it is also completely free to all intents and purposes.

When HMRC finally get there way with MTD, I doubt TF will be compliant. That is what I mean by temporary fudge.

That said, IRIS will be able to help out there I'm sure :D

You don't think they'll develop their software in order to be compliant, then ?

I dont *think* so no, as I believe it will require the source data from primary records, and TF said to me that is not something they want to get into.

Longer term

But anything can happen..

Ditto. No notification yet, but client numbers will just tip me into 'unlimited'. It'll be interesting to see what additional 'bits' are introduced

Also, I can't archive or delete clients as I'm not on the unrestricted licence.

So if some of them leave I can't reduce my client numbers to stay below the next pricing band.

My understanding is that it's the number of returns you submit which is the deciding factor, not the number of clients.

Ah, I thought I read that previously, but when I look at there website it says X clients.

Hopefully its clumsy wording, seems there is no easy way to find out the number of submitted returns per year? Which makes me suspicious, other than looking through the submissions.

I would just say that you get a discount on Accountancy Manager if you are an ICPA member. A very nice discount too.
Re Taxfiler - at Accountex they said that they would be rolling out the new PM software gradually and that although there is a price increase the PM bit would be free.
Obvious statement ... but it all depends on what and why you want the PM bit. If all bells and whistles then its got to be something like AccMger (e.g reminders, AML recording, esigning). Taxfiler wont be giving you that.

PS>>I use Toggle (free) for time recording

Don't mind a gradual price rise but not 67% - especially they were very optimistic a year ago when i purchased taxfiler subscription, saying they were not looking at a sudden price hike!!

Well the good news is you can cancel without any notice, so just walk away and go buy something more expensive instead.
