Taxfiler - HMRC data

Unavailable

I'm clicking on this new "View HMRC data" button on Taxfiler and just getting a message saying that HMRC doesn't recognise the authorisation.

Is this service not yet up and running or am I missing something ?

Have you set up your authorisation?

It does work with BTC (once set up) although there's very little information available at present for 2017/2018. More available for earlier years however it is far from perfect.

Is this this new agent account we got emailed about a few months ago ? I sidelined it because you couldn't do it at the time, which begged the question of why they were sending us a video link explaining how to sign up ...

Foolishly, I assumed they'd email us again once the service was available.

No, I did ours about a year ago & it was the normal SA agent log in. You have to go through an annoying process including giving (from memory) your PERSONAL d-o-b, NI number & passport details.

It wasn't a separate process linked to the new agent accounts (I haven't got one yet). It was something that presented itself whilst using BTC, but then took you to the HMRC screens. BTC support turned it on for me before it presented itself so it may be a setting or something within TaxFiler.

Also your authorisation is meant to last 18 months. I've had to do it at least three times in the past year or so.

I don't recall it but apparently I have authorised receipt of HMRC online data through Taxfiler. It's in Settings.

I've just never received any.

I don't think this will be a Taxfiler issue. Taxcalc also have this in place for 2017/18 now, but it's a bit ropey, and when it does work there's virtually nothing there.

I think the issues are HMRC's end. It's a new thing for them.

I raised this as a support query so I get ongoing updates from Tax filer. The last email I had was dated 13th June and suggested that HMRC were saying that the online data wouldn't be available until September at the earliest.

It was September last year so I haven't been holding my breath for anything.

In one way the data must be there as the Class1 PT-UEL details are there, but that's the NICO records not the PAYE records.

Anyway, and to quote an honoured member here, MTD will sort all this out

Yes almost no data there for 2017/2018.

But for 2016/2017 it often pulls over quite a lot of data.

Lion, have you tried it for some of your clients for 2016/2017? Preferably those that have Schedule E income.

Tried it for an employee and a pensioner but still got the same "HMRC does not recognise the authorisation" reply.

Try reauthorising your agent account in Settings. Cancel the authorisation then go through the process again. That may help, though only NICO details seem to be coming through at the moment.

MTD will sort all this out :p

When you get it working it pulls across occupational pension details. It has NEVER pulled across State Pension details. Isn't it marvellous that HMRC can't get that sorted whilst making all the other payers in the country comply with RTI?

HMRC IT systems are a shitstorm in a teacup, with no consistency, lack of accuracy, failure to actually link their systems together, and even when they do, two people looking at what is (apparently) the same data can be looking at entirely different numbers.

It's a wonder anything works at all.

No surprise there. Everyone else has had to operate PAYE for the last 70 years but HMRC say it's too difficult to operate it on State Retirement Pensions.

Do as I say, not as I do. Just translate that into Latin and use it as the Government's motto.

I had a similar issue. I had to cancel my authorisation within the taxfiler settings and re-authorise. It then did as another poster suggests above, it asked me for agent ref number and passport details, dob etc. Ever since doing this, it has pulled days through no problem*.

*When I say no problem, I mean that taxfiler did its job. The data pulled through from HMRC for a coupler of clients (16/17) was very helpful, but for others, it says there is nothing on record for that UTR, which is usually a load of bullocks.

These are starting to come through for 2017/2018 (on BTC). Still unreliable though, H+W situation, W's details pulled through, H's didn't. Same employer!

I have started to see details turning up on CCHPT, but it's few & far between, and nothing for any that I have on Taxfiler as yet.

Mentioned this to Taxfiler support who concurre that in all likelihood it is just that my TF client details have not made it through at HMRC's end yet.

The TF message is a little odd as it says "A record cannot be found for the UTR", but I have reauthorised my TF account with HMRC and data is pulling through for 2016-17 so I do think it is just HMRC systems being slow to update.

The answer seems to be to keep trying the link and eventually something will appear.

It's a shame that HMRC systems:
- lump all PAYE pension sources into one, instead of breaking them out (as for employment information when it eventually arrives); and
- cannot bring across state pension details when they are clearly there if you check the client record

Hey ho...MTD will fix this etc etc

Managed to get 2017/18 information for one client today via Taxfiler :-) Can't get too excited yet because for the second one it said no record for the UTR (UTR correct) and I know there is as I have four of the P45s! I did have to disable the HMRC settings and go through security questions again
