Taxfiler Migration to Iris Elements

Do partially completed items get migrated?

Didn't find your answer?

Hello

We're going to migrate to Iris Elements in the short term and try it out from Taxfiler. I've got the trial version up and running but I can't see anywhere in the help info what data it migrates over. We have some half finished accounts that have not been filed, and a couple of tax returns that have been started, along with all of the submitted items.

Can anyone confirm if these incomplete returns and accounts would be migrated? Or does it just migrate everything that has been submitted?

Any other advice from people that have already migrated would be great. I have already restored a couple of archived clients that we want to keep data for as they may return.

Thanks for your help

It migrates all those that are active (i.e. not archived). Thus as I have found a partially completed set of accounts for a client appears in the Iris version and can be worked upon as expected.

Thanks so much. We're hoping to not migrate till the end of the month so will crack on with the SAs we are starting!

I'm hoping to not migrate ever but I guess that's wishful thinking. May I ask if you opted to migrate at this particular moment or were you pushed because your TaxFiler contract was coming to an end?

Either way - best wishes with the move and do keep this thread updated.

Hi

We got an email and then a permanent banner on TF itself counting down the days until our licence expires. Countdown started at 29 days so they do give you some time to sort things out.

The migration was straight forward and for me took slightly less than their minimum fifteen minutes. I think Taxfiler was giving me a countdown to lock out - whether real or scaremongering I didn’t test.

The initial screen looks a little different but once you’re into the actual documents all looks very familiar. Does look more web-browser based.

You’ll need to reconnect the authorisations, which can be a challenge in itself. So far processed VAT return and limited company accounts with corporation tax return without any issues.

For me too early to say whether it is better, but appears no worse. Like the look of the Proposal module so may give that a trial.

Watching with interest. My taxfiler contract doesn't expire until July so haven't yet been pushed to elements.

I had a very quick look at taxcalc but cost is roughly double so would prefer not to move unless I have to.

Mine expires in July too and I also didn't fancy the price of Taxcalc.

Ditto. It’s not so much the cost of the software but our time in moving, although I think you can pay to export.

It’s a bit naive to expect that Iris will match the taxfiler price for beyond a year

Yeah agree with that, but it will take a few years for Iris to catch up with TaxCalc so I'll bide my time. I'm still hoping a bunch of former TaxFiler people build something similar in the meantime - their non compete clauses must be out of time by now.

I’ve been using elements for a while and it keeps getting bugs so I’m out as they say on Dragons Den. Shame, as I loved what was taxfiler

When you say bugs, what do you mean? Things not being submitted?
