Hi All,
Not sure when Taxfiler is planning on making its Practice a Management module available to users, but has anyone had a go on the Beta yet? What do you think?
We really need to make the jump to PM software soon, and I’m veering towards Senta, but an integration with Taxfiler would be a good alternative, if it actually works well.
Thanks.

I've seen a demo back in May and it showed promise, but also felt to me like it was a little way off being polished and ready for launch. Hopefully we'll start to see something soon.
Had a quick look, and in the past had also looked at Xero's offering as it is bundled in at least if you are at a certain partner level. Neither deals with everything, with Taxfiler seeming to also require document management products from IRIS. Most smaller practices won't do everything in one suite e.g. Xero doesn't do final accounts, Taxfiler does but you are unlikely to want their MTD for VAT if you are using Xero.
Trouble with practice management platforms per se is that unless your practice is big enough to need one (> 200 clients and a few staff) the overhead of setting up and managing the process doesn't seem worth it compared to the ease at which this can be done on a spreadsheet. If you are serious about automation and reducing staff costs I can see the point though.
I think the value in PM depends on the extent to which workflow is automated or at least integrated, so that actions are performed within the PM platform. Otherwise you risk marking something as done when it hasn't been and vice versa, and you still have to organise emails and attachments as they flow between the practice and the client. And to set all this up is no small task. Then there is the cost, on top of all the other software.
But if you haven't seen this already this is a handy comparison:

I would be incredibly wary about using this given IRIS's track record in slamming your nuts in the vice, and turning it tighter each year, and asking you to saw yourself free if you don't like it.
It seems like a cynical way of pulling you into their systems so its too costly to get out in terms of time and effort as well as hard cash.
I would just go "best of breed" and take the hit on integration if i was big enough. I am small enough (me + 1) to do it all in excel.
I'm currently having a go with Accountancymanager. Support is good and quick . As ever with any computer programme it takes time to get your head round but it looks promising.
Yes . . . . . but has anybody actually used Taxfiler Practice Management (beta) yet and if so what's it like? With respect . . . . . there's no point in hearing yet again about Senta, Accountancymanager et al when the original question was specifically about Taxfiler. We too are spreadsheet adherents but as we also use Taxfiler we'd dearly like to know what the capabilities of it's practice management might be.
Chris.
We volunteered to use but were never approached. The support on the other products has been appalling since the IRIS takeover. Just watched the Taxfiler Corp Tax seminar where James Reeves explained that the product is meant to be rigid so that accounts and CT comps could be produced as quickly as possible in a 'compliant' format - whether they were correct didn'
t seem to be issue!
Ditto, and when I followed up was told they had all the beta testers that they needed. We volunteered to use but were never approached.
Asked about availability again recently and was to 'soon'
I don't see the option for this yet and tbh I doubt I will use it anyway as it sounds very basic and at the moment I'm looking at senta or AM.
With the way things are going not sure I'll be using TF for much longer anyway.
I'll keep using my sheet of A4, thanks.
The biggest benefit of a piece of paper is that it can be customised to your exact needs.
No practice management system meets all needs and so I have stopped looking for now. I just built one in Airtable.com and use Zapier to integrate it into Gmail and Practice Ignition.
