Taxfiler Since Iris Takeover

Any change?

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

We are finally going to bite the bullet after 12 years on Iris and give it the boot. 7% compound price increases and Practice Management that hasn't changed for 10 years is just ridiculous!

Meanwhile part of this is going totally cloud based. Goproposal, GoCardless, Senta, Xero (with Workingpapers), Office 365 (with Sharepoint) etc mean we wont need any server based software. However pure cloud accounts/ct/pt software seems thin on the ground. Taxfiler looks  good but is now owned by Iris I think!

Seeing as Iris are the worst company we have dealt with since we started this thing would we be mad to go to Taxfiler???!!! Will Iris leave them alone? I can only see Capium as a direct competitor unless I have missed any others. As we will use Senta as the main driving force we only need Accounts, CT and PT. Needs to integrate well with Xero.

Any feedback from people with Taxfiler? Or anything equivalent?

We use Taxfiler. Have done for about 3 years. Personally we find it great to use, especially for tax returns. It's straightforward, the support is good and they are continually updating the software with little updates that don't mean you have to relearn the whole system, but do keep it very up to date. Since Iris bought it we haven't noticed any big changes, except that they've brought in MTD bridging but we don't use that.

Also, in the time we've been using it, not once have I found their site down - it's always working flawlessly.

They don't seem to put the price up once you're with them. The monthly fee is higher now than when we signed up but we're still on the amount we signed up to.

It's accounts section is a little limited as you can't change the line item names, categories or order. Instead you have to use the standard they provide, but we rarely find this to be a problem.

Also worth noting, it only does FRS102A not full 102, which means no cashflow statements.
For a small practice with small clients (our biggest client has a £1m turnover) we find it very good.

The price us going up for existing customers too. We'll be contacted any time soon to be told which of the new plans we should be on.

That won't continue for long. I can't link it now but they've said that new signups are on the increased rate now and they'll be in touch with existing customers "in due course" = "soon"

The basic price has doubled, which is going some even for Iris, but it is cheaper if you pay annually instead of monthly. I won't pay annually until the notice period to avoid automatic rollover is crystal clear.

Iris just confirming their status as a four letter word.

I had expected it to go up but it's been a very long time coming and I don't recall receiving any notifications from them regarding price rises. But I'm sure they'll hike it up for us eventually.

They haven't notified you yet. The details are all in their press release to which I provided a link on another thread.
Importantly, the new prices will be inclusive of their new PM software.

Let's be fair Taxfiler was EXCEPTIONAL value before and even at its new price still good value and will now include MTD for VAT filing and PM.
At least it has continued to be developed since the takeover and it would have been a legitimate concern to think it wouldn't after previous takeovers
