Any ideas

So I have got my head round the ASA and signed up clients - Xero have sold their software to me saying its marvellous and now just before the first filing date I get an email saying bank feeds are changing "due to industry wide standards" on top of that when I try and connect my Xero Software to MTD its just keeps trying to connect without success. Are any of you having problems using the different software packages ? Are your clients complaining about all sorts of difference packages and lack of support from the providors ? Positive feed back is welcome.

I also had a problem with being stuck in a loop of authorisation codes when trying to connect for MTD.

You need to be logged into your ASA at HMRC for the authorisation process to work. Hitting Connect to MTD after I was logged into my ASA made the authorisation process go through smoothly.

You shouldn't have to be logged in for it to work. It should simply ask you to log in if you are not logged in.

This again is where it is worth getting some of the free MTD software and trying to authorise that. That way you find out where the problems are (with HMRC or with Xero) and you get a better understanding of how it works.

The free software can work at the same time as Xero works.

Ok, dumb question time JohnH - how does it work at the same time (preventing two returns being sent)?

There are 5 VAT apis. Four ask HMRC for information and one submits the vat return.

Obviously you can only submit the return once. However, you can look up information with the other APIs using any piece of MTD software.

When you look things up you are using most of the MTD API although only the read scope and not the write scope, but it is a good way of finding out why things are going wrong if they are.

It also means you can use a single piece of software to monitor progress on all of your clients' accounts.
