The role of income tax in Scotland's budget

The role of income tax in Scotland's budget...oh good lord please can I retire NOW!?

Didn't find your answer?

Well it is just a discussion paper for 2018-19 but my did my heart sink on skimming it!!

In the suggestions on different band structures they do say "We acknowledge that if proposals to change tax bands are brought forward it will be important to engage extensively with HMRC to minimise any change in the administrative burden on self-assessment taxpayers and on business. The efficiency of the tax system is, therefore, something which we will consider in the upcoming debate." but given the farago of the HMRC tax computation this year and numerous exclusion cases who cannot see an even bigger monster looming on the horizon?

Why stop at 6 tax bands - surely 10 is a nice round number.

Presumably they will want rUK to fund the administrative burden of this via central/HMRC funding - with no reduction of the Barnett subsidy of course.

Surely, with north sea oil loss making or barely breaking even, now is an ideal time to repeal all this devolution nonsense, turn Hollyrood into flats and tell Sturgeon that she can either 'do a Puigdemont' or [***] off back to Queenzieburn.

Oh my god one option is a tax system with six bands. And if the system works as it currently does then those will apply to trading/employment/pension/property income but then we'll have the English bands for divis and savings.

The age of the pen and paper quickie tax comp is dead. Just remembering the bands will be near impossible.

I disengaged all my Scottish clients (not too many) last year. No problem.
