Thrown out of HMRC VAT!

Didn't find your answer?

I am trying to submit a (NON-MTD) VAT Return (Q/E May 2021) for a long established client who is voluntarily VAT registered.  However, today when I login as agent to HMRC VAT, although it lets me access the client OK, it then logs me out when I click on submit a VAT Return!  Loging back in doesn't work, as it then goes round in circles.  I don't know if the site is just messing around today, or whether it is an ongoing problem, or if HMRC have suddenly changed something.  If anyone has any ideas / had a similar problem I would appreciate it! HMRC just seem to make life as difficult as they can.

I have some clients on the old system and some on the new - but at least there is a way to submit manually without having to sign them up for MTD. My post that Duggimon has linked explains the process.

Thank you for the replies. It was a bit of a nightmare, but I got there in the end. Why HMRC can't communicate what is happening better, instead of just login you out of the account, and putting you in a panic, I don't know. It went on about transferring all my self assessment clients across to the new system too. Can someone please reassure me that it will not now lock all my self assessment clients into MTD???!!!

Pretty sure I had something from HMRC.

Plus it was covered on here quite a lot.

It will not lock all your SA clients into MTD. Nor will it lock your non MTD4VAT clients into MTD4VAT.

Thanks, that's a relief. Can't think straight today any more! No, I never had anything from HMRC, and if I had I certainly wouldn't have ignored it. Ironically, this was my final VAT Return for this client, as I've resigned as his accountant, due to MTD.
