Time to migrate.......but who with?

My Taxfiler subscription is coming to an end

Didn't find your answer?

Therefore it is time for me to migrate.....presumably to Iris.

Dear Aweb community,

I've searched previous posts on this topic and i can see that Absolute Accounting Software has been recommended for being a good software and reasonably priced.

Have you people got other suggestions that you would recommend please?

Thanks. I'll look this up. This name has come up many times on this forum before. There must be a good reason.

Would you say their customer service is good? That's what I am the most worried about with Iris as I heard theirs is dreadful.

Yes the customer support is excellent, they always reply quickly to me on the few times I've needed it.

You shouldnt need much support with tax calc as it just works, but I have had issues before with my network and installing their kit which probably was my issue and not theirs, but they still remotely logged onto my machine and fixed it.

I think I'm sold with the idea of moving to Tax Calc.

On the rare occasions I've had to contact Taxcalc support it has always been excellent. Only one of those occasions was as a result of an issue with the software, the others were usually due to my own ineptitude at not ticking the necessary box somewhere.

Yes.

Avoid Iris products like the plague.

taxcalc seems to get the popularity vote her for sure - i use btc desktop for sa/ct/partnership - and main filing of correspondence and files (they have inbuilt filing cabinet) and am 100% happy with btc - it can do accounts but with have stuck with vt (probably due to laziness) - btc specifically integrates well with vt ref importing data

I think you can export from VT to Taxcalc, certainly the self employed numbers

I'm in the same boat - a word of warning. If you migrate to Iris Elements you are told you have to cancel your subscription with Taxfiler. I did this (still had a month left) and naively assumed the subscription transfers to Iris Elements - it doesn't. You have to pay to actually use Iris. The trial version doesnt enable you to create a tax return or set of accounts.

You also have to contact Taxfiler to get a refund

We are still awaiting the email to tell us our Taxfiler time is up, but have made no progress on sourcing a replacement as we are looking for a cloud solution. It appears the cloud offerings are in short supply and (mostly) of low quality compared with the options for desktop.

Hopefully we can find a solution which works for us, even if it is QBO & Xero for now!

Does Tax Calc's cloud offering not work for you?

Whilst the software sits on your staff's machine the database is sat either on the cloud or your own system which these days is usually in reality a cloud based shared drive rather than an old school server.

Id certainly talk to them. They are pitching more towards clients of your size in the IRIS space rather than the little guy like me.

Xero tax is horrible.

I've noticed that over the last few years, they really are aiming just for the medium sized and larger practices now

I've been using TaxCalc for about 12 years. It's logical and works well. Only had to contact support once, and problem was resolved the same day.

I've been with Digita for PT, AP & CT - they certainly aren't shy with their pricing but the support has always been great.

I've just said on another post that I think a combination of VT software and Absolute Tax could be a good idea. But it's a pain to use two lots of software when one should save time.
It comes down to what sort of clients you have and how much your budget could stretch to of course.

I have to be honest we've migrated to iris elements and I'm not sure why there is so much negativity to it, so far it seems to work as we want

the only gripes I have is that it doesnt look as easy on the eye as taxfiler and is a little bit harder to navigate, but that just probably me not being used to it yet

Also if you want to stay in the cloud or not have a big hike in software costs, what else is there?

Thanks (1)

there wouldnt be negativity if iris managed to get people moved over without issues - facts are posters here have any number of issues when transferring and iris have failed to solve those issues - whose fault is that. Unbelievable one can upset ones customers by forcing them to move and not helping technically in that task.

thats the thing with iris they may have a great product (they probably got from elsewhere) - but they soemhow manage to mes up by having no customer service and poor ongoing support ref not creationg later issues that arent sorted quickly.

We all know its tough for delevelopers at start of new tax year but only iris dont have solution that may prevernt them from submitting tax returns for stuff they knew was coming (transitional profit adjusts)

I second this

I am a customer who had to migrate from Taxfiler - ever since I migrated (one month) I have had issues with the software.

The home dashboard does not work and neither can I access my clients previous filings etc or for that mater open a new year to work on.

So basically I can not work - it is intermittent so on and off, ie sometimes all the widgets and buttons do work. I raised this complaint with Iris Support a month ago to be told that a week later that they have escalated it to their development team and we should hear back in 24-48hrs.

I am not in one month and to this date, I am chasing them as the issue is still there, the response is EXACTLY the same, that I should hear back in 24-48hrs.

One would think my case is a priority case given I can not service my clients, which could cause me financial and non financial ruins. I am paying Iris elements for a not service but to speak to the support team.

I think there software is decent but trust me their support team is highly useless and if you find something not working, then I think it is a nightmare. Therefore I personally would tell all new potential customers to stay away from them. You ring their support and after a long queue you get through, go through security, tell the reason for the call and the call drops - and no, they don't have the decency of calling back.

Oh one thing they do very well is apologise;
- im sorry i understand your frustration
- im sorry but it is with the development team and they are looking into it
- im sorry but there is nothing else we can do, it is with the development team

I wonder what it would be like if we said to Iris, im sorry that you have not been paid.
Im sorry it is with my bank and they are looking into it - do you think they would accept this sorry?

STAY AWAY and choose another software - money waste, time waste and not good for health or business
