To Aweb Editor - Covid-19 area is a shambles

Please Make it easier for us

Didn't find your answer?

The Aweb Covid-19 area is full of lots of blogs claiming to give advice, but not good enough. In amongst these are really good articles from Kate Upcraft, and probably others, if I knew where they were.

Would it be possible to label the icons advertising the blogs with the name of the author, and put the ones from people who really know what they're talking about into a separate area so the rest of us can see them? You know who I mean.

We just need to find good advice quickly. Surely that's a good thing? Some of us are trying to stave off a heart attack. Anything you can do to help us would be welcomed.

Also remove the things that aren't really to do with Covid-19, but just happen to mention it in passing.

e.g.

5 Ways To Grow Your Accountancy Practice - Blatant plug for TaxCloud that just mentions being supportive through the pandemic, but is not really about that. Also cannot count. - https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/community/industry-insights/5-ways-to-gr...

International Accounting Day - This is not Covid-19 related just because it has fallen in the year of Covid-19 (as will every annual thing) - https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/community/blogs/glen-foster/internationa...

See how accountants are producing self-assessments within minutes - Blatant plug for Nomisma. Cannot see the relevance at all - https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/community/industry-insights/see-how-acco...

Seven time management ideas for working from home - Blatant plug for BTC Software. Does not even mention Covid-19, but must be relevant because "working from home"? Can at least count - https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/community/industry-insights/seven-time-m...

Hi Moonbeam

Thanks for rightly calling us out on this. A lot of articles, Any Answers and blogs are tagged 'coronavirus' and pulled into this section. But this is something I can sort out quickly.

I have reorganised the section, with the latest stories getting the featured slots at the top of the page. I'll investigate other ways we can make this information easier for you to access. We know these are tough times and will do what we can to ease any unneeded stress.

**Plug Klaxon** I'd also like to take this time to encourage everyone to join me on Monday for the latest Any Answers Live, where I'll be joined by Rebecca Benneyworth and Della Hudson to answer your coronavirus-related questions. Thank you Richard for hearing me (and Stepurhan).
I'll have a look at this tomorrow morning.
I will plug into the live any answers session at a later date, as I need to be around during the day for clients.
I really appreciate what the true experts are doing for us. They often do the same job as we do and know for themselves the stress of putting the "guidance" into practice.

Thanks for looking at this. However I cannot help noting that the TaxCloud plug I mentioned still appears in this area and it still cannot count.

Hi Richard. I've had a look at the Covid-19 area this morning. Even after your reorganisation, I'd still have to click on each blog to see who the author is. And some of these blogs are not technical in any way.

What we all need is a dedicated area for articles written by people who really know their technical onions, such as Kate Upcraft, Rebecca Benneyworth, and others like them or the latest guidance from HMRC (which sadly isn't good enough - but we have to make do with).

If you don't substantially improve an area that will be important to most of us in practice for at least the next 6 months then you won't have so many on your site. And if your advertisers insist on being involved in this area, all they'll do is waste our time, the way it's set up at the moment.

I'm now going off to Mercia's site for data like this that's easy to find.

If you can set up a section like this you may attract more people to your site.

related to Moonbeam's comment about viewing an author's content, if you click on the author's name in their profile banner at the top of the left of the screen it will take you to their profile where all of their articles and any answers are listed. this works for us contributors as well as the staffers on Aweb. Unfortunately though Rebecca Benneyford and Kate Upcraft don't have profiles and this doesn't work for their articles.

Kate posted the other day in response to someone.

You have Rebecca's surname slightly wrong, but she has a profile too. It's Benneyworth
