Trying to get a hmrc agent code as a CIMA mip

Getting a letter stating the certificate isn’t enough

Didn't find your answer?

I am trying to get a agent code for self assessment and corporation tax but hmrc won't accept my mip CIMA certificate as proof of CIMA as my AML supervisor. What do I do?

Contact CIMA who should be able to provide the confirmation of your money laundering supervision.

The practising certificate states they’re my AML supervisor

Really? I didn't think the certificate explicitly stated AML supervision. If it does then point it out to HMRC, otherwise my comment still stands. They are your professional body and should support their members in these issues.

The wording on the certificate is “is licensed by CIMA to work as a Member in Practice in accordance with the prescribed regulations, which include anti-money laundering supervision.”

From memory I think part of the application/renewal you give permission to CIMA to register you and you get some generic letter advising that you are registered.

I would contact CIMA to clarify as there may be something lapsed at their end.
