Two Sage Companies Under One VAT number

Didn't find your answer?

I currently run two companies seperately - as historically this was required and still is. For VAT purposes we have always ran the VAT returns on SAGE for both then just added up all the figures on a spreadsheet prior to submitting the VAT return online.

With MTD - this will no longer be an option. Has any one encourtered this before? Or have any advice on what best to do in this situation. I want to avoid combining the two companies on SAGE as it would cause issues. However I cannnot see any other easy solutions.

Would bridging software be able to help you?

Contact Hmrc explain that it would seem unreasonable to have to buy two licences for sage and then pay for bridging software for no good reason . Add as many other reasons why Mtd is not for you . Mtd was designed to make things easier not more costly or more difficult ! It’s best Hmrc are informed so they realise the issues business face .

just add both SAGE setup companies [ 2 departments of x1 Limited VAT registered entity ?] - seting up another SAGE Accounts company + use the consolidation process - would VAT filing from there not be possible... fr sage

if this is 2 sites in x1 LTD co, with x1 vat reg + not a group reg - why not use SAGE departments.. for each site - and therefore use only 1 sage company/database... surely job done now and for apr2020?

It makes me laugh. Most of the replies to someone who is not Computer literate is supposed to somehow overnight acquire a sound knowledge of CSV files , bridging software etc. So the VAT system now means that a small business with a turnover of just over the VAT limit has to have advances Accountancy and Computer skills to comply . If the smallest business owner was so competent with all of this maybe they should set up an Accountancy business. HMRC have definitely missed something with this !

We have an exact scenario with one of the clients. We use https://accountsdesk.co.uk/mtd bridging software. You will have to email them to enable support for two businesses.
You generate VAT for each company is Sage, export each of that to Excel and use their bridging software.
The software will automatically sum the two company VAT 1 - 9 boxes to submit VAT digitally to HMRC.
