Two weeks grace on self assessment where repayment is due?

Two weeks grace on self assessment where...

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

A client has never received their authorisation code, so I requested a reissue. A code came through which didn't work, with must have been the first code, superseded by the second. I was given no option to again reissue the code which as yet hasn't been received and the deadline is fast approaching. The client has spoken to HMRC and has been told that as he will actually be due a repayment on his self assessment, he actually has until 14th February to file. I have never heard of this before - has anyone else? I don't want the client to incur a penalty based on false information.

Thanks

Why can't you file?

I am not aware of a grace period and would not rely on it.

You do not need to be authorised to file a return and you still get the email confirmation - you just cannot see the results

The client hasn't yet set up their own online gateway, and as they are on my unauthorised list, it says I can complete but not submit?

Thanks for your response Marion, any help is appreciated.

If you use 3rd party software you can file without completing the authorisation process.  Ftax has a single-use option which looks reasonably priced.

Software

Basically you can't file using the Revenue's software but you can file with commercial software (well certainly with Sage and BTC).
