Udemy and VAT Moss (Selling online courses)

Udemy and VAT Moss (Selling online courses)

Didn't find your answer?

Will my client have to sign up for VAT moss?

Or will the website (Udemy) take care of the VAT due, sorry i am not clued up on the matter.

They are only selling digital educational courses within Europe.

Thank you

J

It depends

Does your client deliver its courses to Udemy, who re-sell them; or is Udemy acting as Agent for your client? What does the contract state? Have you asked Udemy about VAT>

Are the customers in businesss or not?  Are the courses delivered totally automatically?

Have a look at this HMRC guidance, as it contains information on educational courses: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-supplying-digital-service...

Thanks for your reply. It's been cleared now. Udemy will charge the VAT on their behalf. As they take a % cut of total sales.

Udemy is selling the courses to students and provide a profit share to your client.

There is no manual intervention. The course is delivered automatically and Udemy would need to deal with VAT MOSS on B2C.

As the relationship between your client and Udemy is B2B, VAT MOSS is not required for your client.

My irrelevant note: the client cannot know location of course students is only Europe. Udemy is global.

Thanks for your answer!

My client travels across Europe but is based within the UK but you are quite right.
