Uk contract going to work in Belgium for 2 years

Uk contract going to work in Belgium for 2 years, employer advise that I would have to pay tax

Didn't find your answer?

Hi I am a belgian citizen that has been livign and working in the uk for the last 10 years... I am about to move to Belgium where I will be working for my UK employer with the same uk contract just a change of location / secondement for 2 years my employer advised that I will have to pay tax in the UK and in Belgium. I was under the impression that UK and Belgium have a double taxation treaty hence if i spend 30 days a year in UK i would only have to pay tax in UK and not in Belgium

You probably want to read up on Limosa registration (or maybe your employer does)

Not really enough information to say if you would still have a UK liability. If NR under, say 3rd Automatic Test of the STR, then UK liability on UK workdays.
You would be resident in Belgium so taxable in Belgium on worldwide income with "exemption with progression" in Belgium for the income taxed in the UK. You and your employer need professional help.

further information i will be on a uk contract, getting paid in a uk bank account, I have properties in the UK but now in Belgium and I will be spending over 30 days a year in the UK as well. My employer seem to think i would have to pay tax in uk and Belgium but i was under the impression that I would only have to pay tax in one country given there is a double taxation treaty.. if you require more information happy to add also my employer has no offices or registered entity in belgium
