UK VAT for EU company making online sales to UK

A company based in Portugal is going to make online sales to UK customers B2C - below £135

Didn't find your answer?

I have been approached to act for a company based in Portugal who is about to start selling goods to UK customers online . They sell cosmetic products to keep skin young looking and will be priced at below £135.  They hope total turnover from UK will be over £100K pa.  Obviously they need to charge and account for UK VAT and file VAT returns etc

I am looking to register the business for UK VAT . But looking into this, I read that an option would be to register for One Stop Shop in Portugal, would this be the correct way or should we register for VAT in UK.

I usually register clients for VAT via my Agent's loging with HMRC, can I/should I register the company in the same way

Thanks for any help/advise on this

You might want to look at the first rate series of Brace for Brexit articles on here. They will provide many of the answers you're looking for.

One Stop Shop is an EU scheme for EU traders selling within the EU. The UK is not in the EU and therefore One Stop Shop (OSS) is not in play 9although if the Portugal client is selling into the EU they may well need OSS but they can only register for that in an EU member state and so you can't do it for them), nor is Import One Stop Shop (IOSS).

They will need a UK VAT registration and you can use your agent account to register them like you would VAT register any business, if this is the first time you've done a non-UK VAT registration, the process will ask for photo ID and proof of home address of Director, which you should have as part of your KYC process.
