Up to Date Tax laws

Didn't find your answer?

Hi Everyone,

Just coming back to Practice from an industry background, and most of my up to date knowledge came from when i was studying at the time. However, now a bit out of the loop.

Just looking for advice really of where Tax accountants look up and keep their knowledge up to date and good sources to go to when you have client queries.

Read any answers
But hold you opinion
Read before others answer
Decide what you would say

then check in a day latter and see what the panel said

Subscribe to Taxation
Read the tax tribunals. Decide if appeal allowed after just the first two paragrahs

Read the Q And A at back
Same thing
Decide on your answer before reading the published replies

Do some CPD
ACCA practice society is a good start
Before covid they were 3 Saturdays a year covering 4 topics per day
Dead cheap

TAX is all that matters. Technical accountancy is not really what clients want. They want the tax to be correct and for there to be no additions on any tax enquiry

Learn about benefits
Make sure that there are none in your microcompanies
That is just volunteering for extra employers NI

Learn about trivial benefits and keep those within the rules

Do not use HMRC website to learn tax rules. They publish their opinion, which is then dumbed down and just plain wrong

Possibly the least succinct answer I've ever seen from Paul ... yet easy to read and full of seriously good suggestions ... strange! :-)

Not woke enough
Suggested A Poppy and Help for Heroes as the November flag.

Did not go down well
Wrong kind of virtue signalling

"TAX is all that matters."

There should be one of those "Inspirational" posters done with that as the motto.

(ex-HMIT, what minimal accountancy knowledge I have is too dangerous to use)

Sounds like a winning slogan for an election campaign.

(Oh, wrong thread.)
