VAT claim on computer installation - services or goods? - FRS VAT scheme - can I claim VAT back

VAT claim on computer installation - services or g

Didn't find your answer?

Have recently bought 2 new computers, associated hardware, server software etc.

The invoice is for nearly 4K gross. But this includes 880 plus VAT for labour, install etc, AND another £300 for cost of drilling lots of holes, installing wires, basically setting up the network facility that I now have.

I'm on FRS VAT. Can I claim back all VAT or just some? My opinion is that I started with nothing and now I have computers, hardware, Office 2016, wires attached to the walls. It's capital. I'm not expecting to claim the labour cost through P&L as it's, well it's not revenue is it? It's all on one invoice btw.

But is it services for FRS?

I have been told of a VAT case similar to this where HMRC lost and it was accepted that it's all capital. But no name of the case.

Thank you

I'd claim too.

You might get questions asked at a VAT visit but I entirely agree with Basil.

Thank you, Both.
I now no longer need to ask the computer man to reissue his invoice showing large cost of computer and £1 for install!
