vAT deferments- DDs need to be cancelled

I nearly missed it

Didn't find your answer?

Whilst they originally said the deferral is an automatic, it now says you need to cancel your DDs

"Customers who normally pay by direct debit should cancel their direct debit with their bank if they are unable to pay. Please do so in sufficient time so that HMRC do not attempt to automatically collect on receipt of your VAT return"

They mean that you don’t have to apply for it, unlike a TTP.

I have told clients to cancel DDs if they want to take advantage of the deferral.

Our biggest client cancelled theirs two weeks ago (they knew this was coming) Also their business rates (no need for a DD for 12 months) and their principle supplier (cos they are shut).
They know next week's lottery winning numbers too.
