Over the past 2 years we've had a few very quick VAT enquiries and a few visits to clients. Only on one occasion (when there was some tax to pay) hass HMRC confirmed that enquiry has been concluded. All the others have just ended with us responding with the information requested and no further comment.
On the latest visit, I have been chasing HMRC for closure (via email) and no response has come back. It has been about 7 weeks now waiting for a reply.
Do others experiences this? Is it deliberate to keep the enquiry open as long as possible? Or is it lack of resource?
