VAT first period

Didn't find your answer?

VAT registered effective 13th May 2020 for quarterly returns in Feb, May, Aug, Nov.

So the first return is a short period 13th to 31st May 2020...or am I being dim?

Looks about right. unless they lump it in to Aug.

It's whatever HMRC say it is.

If you register from 13th May I would be highly surprised if they got their act together to issue a May return.

The answer is on the Gateway or the Registration Certificate.

You can request HMRC to change the stagger of your VAT periods to coincide with your financial year end - if you prefer.

Ok, thanks. Was expecting a short period but can't remember the last time I did this, if at all. Thanks also for comment about the VAT periods - they were selected deliberately for a company with a Feb year end. I never understand the clients I take on where the previous accountant hasn't bothered to get them in sync.
