Bearing in mind previous posts on here about the FRS and Project Managers I recently registered a client for the FRS and chose SIC 71129 Sub Code 025 Project Management; then when HMRC confirmed the scheme details further down they automatically allocated Architect, Civil and Structural Engineer or Surveyor which means 14.5% which isn't what I wanted.
Is this done automatically by the HMRC registration process? Can you undo or change it? I haven't filed the first VAT return yet so there is time to change if it is possible.
The next VAT registration I did for a project manager I selected SIC 82990 Business Services n.e.c which gave me 12% for the FRS which is what I was looking for.
How should I change the previous client's SIC code and therefore FRS percentage?
Also did HMRC automatically allocate Architect, Civil & Structural Engineer from the selection of SIC code 71129 or is it likely I entered it myeslf; I can't remember!

Write to HMRC
We had a very similar situation once; it was actually a slight misunderstanding of the nature of the client's role. We wrote to HMRC (also before the first return) and they changed the sector/rate.
