VAT login details for client

How can this be found ?

Didn't find your answer?

A few years back.  I had registered VAT for my amazon client and filed VAT returns using my agent login

They had moved to one of these VAT amazon specialist firms but when their new agent tries to register for filing VAT returns they get an error saying it has already been used to request access.....

I rarely do setup login details for my client but possibly at that time I could have.  I cannot seem to find it.   Is there anyway I can obtain Government Gateway user ID for this client.

The agent should be setting the client up using their own agent account not the clients. I'm not sure what the new agent is asking you for if you used your agent account? Are they asking for the clients log in if so the ex-client needs to sort that out as they are no longer your client? Does this help?

They are asking for their own login details which they think I had setup on their behalf. This might have happened I cannot remember.

As Lesley has said, your ex client needs to contact HMRC directly. I've had this a few times where clients have set up online access (themselves) and then forget (or often - deny) having done so. HMRC would (rightly) not communicate with me directly (so usually a conference call with client sat next to me). I'd say there is even less chance of them speaking to you now you are no longer engaged!

It still doesn't quite explain why the new agent is unable to authorise the client. A request for 64-8 (or online equivalent) is rarely hampered by the existence of a client's own online account. It does sound like the new advisor is not an HMRC Agent - it is scary how many firms still try to file using client credentials!

Agree entirely
Agents use the agent system
New accountant probably under HMRC radar as they choose to impersonate the client
Probably not AML supervised

I think a lot of accountants setup client login details as there are quite a few things you can do easily on VAT using the client login details that you can't with an agent account. I have been asked a few times during the professional clearance process for VAT login details and recall one accountant sent me the clients VAT userID and password for a new client

Isn’t the login required to approve the new agent? Just let the ex client resolve it.
