VAT on goods purchase from Spain

Been charged VAT (IVA) what do we do?

Didn't find your answer?

We bought some equipment from Spain for €3,000 net and the invoice says the tax is €631 (so €3,631 has been paid).

How do (or can) we reclaim this tax back? We paid in advance, but reading around it looks like the supplier should have zero rated this. What now?

Assuming the goods have moved from Spain to the UK under direction of the vendor, go back to the company make sure they've got your VAT number and ask them for a refund of the IVA and a revised invoice, then do the reverse charge on your VAT return.

Are you VAT registered and have you passed on your VAT number to the supplier ?

If so - remind them.
