VAT on recharged Facebook ads

Does a marketing company need to charge VAT on recharged Facebook ads

Didn't find your answer?

We have received an invoice from a marketing agency for Internet Marketing (Facebook ad spend) they have done on our behalf. Should they charge us VAT on this?

The invoice we have received doesn't include VAT and we want to make sure that this is correct.

its really up to them to decide their vat treatment - its not practicable for you to say if treatment is right or wrong most of the time.

You should ask for vat invoice as normal though and proceed as you would do nomally.

If you wnat to query vat treatmnet this is best done before services are provided so both parties know what tey are getting / declaring. There can be vat leakage if you are not careful.

It may be that they are treating the facebook ad spend as a disbursement, rather than a supply from them to you. Whether that is correct is another matter entirely.

Advertising like facebook is often reverse charged due to being 'supplied' by for example Facebook Ireland.

Is this all they have invoiced you for? Or have they invoiced for marketing services with VAT added then included the facebook spend without VAT.

They do invoice for marketing services with VAT added, this comes as a separate invoice
