VAT on van purchased in Northern Ireland

VAT on van purchased in Northern Ireland

Didn't find your answer?

Client is thinking of buying a van in Belfast and bringing it back to the UK.  The van costs £2,000 less in Belfast than over on mainland UK and just wondering if we're missing something obvious?

I know this as I stated in my original post, which is why I'm wondering if I am missing something, as £2,000 is lot to save

Vehicles in Northern Ireland tend to have the front wheels on the back and the back wheels on the front, and you will often find that the steering wheel is upside down.

If there is no badge at the centre of the wheel, you will need an expert to tell you which way up it is. This costs around £2000. Unfortunately this may irradiate your initial saving.

It's OK I've got the answer that I needed from a company that brings vans back to the mainland to sell because prices in NI are so low.

But thanks for the replies anyway.

Only lower in 2nd hand market
In the 2nd hand market it is a buyers market here you get less money for the car/van your selling then if on the mainland, when it comes to new cars/vans there is no difference to mainland prices

Ferry

It'll cost you a couple of hundred on the ferry to bring it over to Cairnryan.  Plus your time and an air fare to Belfast, diesel to the ultimate destination.

You'll probably still have change out of that £2000 saving but you'll probably end up will less than you thought.

Client is coming over on business anyway so this won't factor into it.

when calculating the costs, you should also include the beer money when you are here. some good ones that you should definitely not miss out on!
