I applied for VAT registration for a client using the online agents 'register a client for a new tax' system 5 weeks ago. Received the conformation email but diddly squat since. Client needs VAT number as new EU customer insists on only trading with a VAT-reg supplier. Does anyone have a number I can call to chase it up or at least discover if there is a problem to reassure client ?

Well apologies then, that’s the number that I have in my contact list ... I’ll await a more knowledgeable response to update my records!
The VAT registration helpline is 03000 523 240 (may be an extra zero) and the VAT complaints team is 0300 058 7529.
Please let me know if you have any success, the complaints number worked a few years ago but I have not used it recently, I just kept the number.
