Vat treatment of equipment exported

Client has had an offer on a lorry from Moldova

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

Basic situation

Client is selling a lorry, potential buyer is stating no vat chargeable as the lorry is going to Moldova

Client wont be arranging the shipping so as far as I can see has no guarantee the lorry will leave the UK, and therefore should charge vat

Never dealt with this before

Agree fully with your analysis.

I'd advise charging VAT and then crediting once the buyer provides evidence of export. Ideally, your client should collect the full amount and then refund - depends on how trustworthy/reliable they consider the buyer to be.
