VCT to offset a Capital Gains Tax Bill

Or similar investment vehicle that’s available

Didn't find your answer?

I was considering investing in a VCT to offset my capital gains tax bill that was generated this tax year.

I sold shares in my business and expect a capital gains bit of about £30,000.

I initially thought I could invest £100k into a VCT and offset this bill by way of the 30% tax releif but having read online I also see that it can be used for income tax releif. Is this so, or will it work as I desire?

If not, are there any other investments I can utilise?

Finally, could I make the inevestment in the 18/19 tax year and claim the tax releif from 17/18?

I regard myself as an experienced investor who has ample savings and has already max out ISA and Pension allowances

Best plan would be to spend some of your £30,000 to engage an accountant and a financial adviser.

I never thought investing just for the tax break was a good idea.

By the way, this isn't a site for people who want valuable advice but don't want to pay for it.
