Verify identity - self assessment repayment

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

Is anyone encountering issues for clients that have recently went self employed and are receiving a self assessment repayment.

HMRC are asking them to complete a repayment questionaire yet some clients have not received the questionaire and HMRC are taking 6 months to send another one (which still hasn't been issued), and other clients have returned the letter 6 months ago and it hasn't been actioned by HMRC and they advised they are not giving a timescale to when they are going to process them.

Thanks in advance

Not come across this myself, but may be worth a call to the Agents Line and chase the repayments, or at least find out exactly what is holding them up and their proposed timeframe for dealing with.

That's what the post is regarding I have spoken to HMRC and they can't give a timeframe.

I have a case, HMRC have asked for driving licence, birth certificate, bank statements & CIS deduction certificates for whole of 2020/21, within 30 days of date of letter.

Client had just moved house & took about 8 weeks to get back to me - HMRC have cancelled repayment & closed self-assessment records! I am hoping that this will be reversed once they look at information sent as client is a subcontractor & does need to complete tax returns each year.

That's crazy to be fair, breaking their own requirements for making self assessment.

Hasn’t this been covered on here a dozen or so times already?

Maybe I’m dreaming.

Thanks for your very helpful response.

The real question I want to find out is how did you reply to my post and dreaming/sleeping at the same time?

Here's one of the queries: https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/any-answers/repayment-claim-check-is-thi...

From some of the questions it seems to be aimed at some of the online Uniform allowance / Marriage Allowance / Tax on PPI interest claim companies, some of whom it seems may be even less scrupulous than those that just keep 25+% of the claim for doing SFA
