View VAT Return filed under MTD

Does not exist?

Didn't find your answer?

So you cant view the VAT return once filed and you just have to hope HMRC have it? and you cant send a copy to the client as it does not exist?

As I have said previously
a) There should be an electronic receipt
b) You can look it up using another MTD software product even if the one you have cannot do it.
If you want hand holding on the phone to do this it is a 10 minute phone call tops.

Hi John. Point b has left us bemused here at Easy MTD VAT because from what we've gleaned from the MTD API documentation, the submission receipt data (ID, Timestamp, Processing Date, Payment Indicator, Form Bundle Number, and Charge Reference Number) is only made available to the MTD software at the point of submission. This means it is up to the MTD software making the submission whether this data is stored locally or in the MTD software's own remote database (Easy MTD VAT does the latter). As such, an MTD software solution is unlikely to know about or have access to the receipt data collected and stored by another MTD software solution.

Please correct us if we are wrong.

"It" meaning the vat return not "it" meaning the receipt.

Aha! Sorry, we thought you were referring to the receipt as you mentioned that in point a!

Like you said, any MTD software (if developed to do so) can display VAT figures for a VAT return submitted through MTD for VAT (i.e. a Fulfilled Obligation) even if that MTD software did not make the submission.

It does seem odd though that HMRC doesn't allow the receipt data to be pulled from their system (like the VAT figures) when viewing a Fulfilled Obligation, but instead expects or assumes the MTD software will store it somewhere - making it unobtainable by other MTD software. Perhaps this was an oversight and pulling receipt data from HMRC will be integrated in the future.

Surely you have a copy generated before you submit it to HMRC?

Allow 24 hours to log into the VAT account and it will confirm whether the return has gone through.

In answer to the OP: "and you cant send a copy to the client as it does not exist"...

As John states, some MTD software will enable you to view a filed VAT return (Fulfilled Obligation) and make a copy to send to a client while others won't. Our software (https://easymtdvat.com), for example, enables you to view the box figures of a Fulfilled Obligation (and the associated receipt data if it was submitted using Easy MTD VAT), then print, email and/or copy it to the clipboard so you can do whatever you like with it.
