Warning about IRIS PTP Tax software!

Just a warning that I was about to file a tax return for one of the simplest tax returns ever. Only three figures on it, turnover, expenses and some capital allowances.

Luckily I ran the tax calculation for one client just before filing, but the income was totally wrong. The software has deleted the expenses after I'd finished and FBI'd it, and it's done the same on ones that have already been filed and accepted. So the tax return within the software is not necessarily the same as the one that has been filed.

So you need to update the software and re-do/check all self-employed tax returns and check online to see what the tax is.

Make Tax Digital eh, when the biggest tax software company in the country can completely muck up a 3 figure tax return!

They apologised that their software was completely up the spout, but had mended it now and so you need to update to v18.1804-0.

I would have thought an urgent email to everybody would have been more appropriate because you might not have noticed until the bills started arriving in January! Updating can be a bit of a faff and so I only do it every other momnth or so.

(the problem was when you tick the box on the self-employment page to say you are entering total expenses. It all looks completely fine, and you can pdf/print it all, but when it's filed, the expenses have vanished and that tick box was greyed out, so depending on when you last updated the software, you should check all the self-employed by running the tax calculation again)
