"We're very busy right now"

.

Didn't find your answer?

Called the ADL at 08:00 on the nose, and the 2.5 minutes of recorded carp still says, "We're very busy right now, and it may take us longer................"

I assume that you lot must also be calling, so could you please stop so that I can complete my call. (NB - still on hold listening to that new, bit still intolerable music, I quite like some classical, but their choice is not the best).

That's also happened to me at 8am. I assume not enough staff have logged in to be able to answer the volume of calls. It's a shocking service - well it's a lack of service. A colleague of mine called them and the call handler was working from home and couldn't issue a PPDCGT. he said he would contact someone in the office and get them to call back. Still waiting three days later!

I've just managed to speak to the helpline but the chap I spoke to was unable to help as apparently the whole HMRC system is down.

They don't know when it will be working.

The gateway appears to be down at the moment so I assume they're all running round with their hair on fire.

Tried to submit a payroll and 20 minutes later still no response. Do they need to put some more money in their leccy meter I wonder?

All the information you require can be found on the Gov.UK website.

Technical difficulties indeed...their service just isn't good enough, a sign of things to come.
By the way the music drives me mad do you think its a ploy to get us to hang up?

How many years is it now that we've heard that or similar recorded messages from HMRC (or any larger organisation).

The decision makers must know by now that these volumes are not going to drop and simply choose not to employ sufficient humans to deal with calls inward. It's an absolute disgrace and more so for governmental agencies.

Cut a few of the HMRC £100k & other highly paid staff and replace with better value ones who can do some real work. NB you can download two FOI spreadsheets on gov.uk that show who (for >£100k earners) and how many others are paid in higher brackets. Like the BBC, these no doubt exclude any subbies!

You can't help but think that by employing sufficient humans in most of the orgs we have to deal with, said orgs would be more efficient because they wouldn't have so many errors to deal with in the first place!

I asked one of their agents if I could get hold of a copy of their "on hold" music. On being asked why, I explained that it's for my funeral, on the basis that I've spent more of my life listening to that than any other musical composition.
