What do you advise if s.29 discovery enquiry...

Didn't find your answer?

HMRC has opened a discovery assessment under s29 for client (an always higher rate taxpayer and at the additional rate since 11/12). Reason is non-declaration of small pension income resulting in £321 tax underpayment in 2009/10 alone. My query is to do with the fact that the income has not been declared in previous years either nor in 2010/11 (which is not closed yet). What do you advise that the client does and how far back do you go? Anyone had similar experience? Many thanks.

but you need to advise client - if he doesn't agree walk away and SOCA report
